Purify your body after the Christmas holidays

It is difficult to say no to those dishes that our loved ones have prepared with such care during the Christmas holidays. But after this marathon, in which we obliterate our normal diet and overindulge in every way, we must restore calm. It is the perfect time to find the motivation necessary to begin the year with a healthier lifestyle.

We recommend paying somewhat more attention to your habits and the physiological functioning of the body, through a detox plan for your body. With this plan we will achieve, in a healthy and gradual way, the elimination of the substances that, during these past weeks, have been accumulating in the nooks and crannies of our vascular system. Our skin will be grateful inside and outside. So we will intensify the natural capacity of the body to eliminate toxins, heavy metals, mixed hydrocarbon compounds that are unfortunately regularly found in foods. Therefore, we will assist the complete mobilisation of these substances and their metabolism so that they may be practically fully excreted from our body, stimulating the key organs involved in the detox process: the lymphatic system, the liver and kidneys.

The key thing is to try and adjust our diet so that we eat gradually, distributing our intake over at least 5 meals. By decentralising our intake in this way, it will be much easier to control the amounts, which are our worst enemy. With prior planning we will also achieve a more reasonable menu that is more appropriate for our weight and normal calorie needs.

Detox menu

We will begin by preparing a purifying broth with food rich in vitamins and minerals (1 celery, 2 onions, 2 tomatoes, half a cabbage, a pinch of parsley and 1.5 litres of water). When we take this broth we will decrease our natural appetite and this will help us avoid excesses between meals. We recommend drinking 1 full glass (approx. 250ml) before each meal:

  • Celery: Rich in water, carbohydrates, fibre, vitamin A, C and B9. It also contains mineral salts such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, iron and zinc. Celery clears toxins from the body and has a laxative effect.
  • Onion: Contains vitamin A and vitamin E, folic acid, mineral salts, fibre and amino acids: lysine and arginine. Onion clears the excess of glucose in the blood and is a powerful diuretic.
  • Parsley: It has diuretic properties and is advisable for preventing kidney stones.
  • Tomato: It has a great antioxidant effect since it contains lycopene (it stimulates the formation of bone tissue) and glutathione. It is also very rich in potassium.
  • Cabbage: It contains water, fibre and vitamin C. It has a great diuretic effect and reduces intestinal inflammation.

Here we provide some ideas for the first and second courses:

  • Rocket shoots with fresh cheese and bacon: rocket is a vegetable with powerful antioxidants, it contributes a lot of fibre, and vitamins A and C. With fresh cheese and bacon we will achieve our correct portion of animal origin proteins.
  • French omelette with courgette and mushrooms: eggs are a great source of polyunsaturated and unsaturated fats (beneficial fatty acids). Courgette is rich in fibre and vitamin C. Mushrooms are fungi that are rich in water and minerals (potassium and vitamins).
  • Grilled chicken breast with wild asparagus: chicken is poultry and is a source of proteins as well as being rich in vitamin B3. Asparagus has rejuvenating properties since it contains a lot of folic acid.

What is important is the daily distribution of food, increasing water intake and intake of fluids (green tea, fruits) and, of course, avoiding processed foods, meat, milk, alcohol, salt and coffee. We will thus achieve a gentle purifying diet that will return a healthy glow to our skin.
