Many men have decided to stop shaving and just let their beards grow. You will find men sporting beards of various shapes and sizes as they tend to leave them to grow until they are comfortable and feel they can identify with them. And we love them! There are as many different types of men as there are beard types. Although, ultimately you all ask the same question about how to look after your beard once you have let it grow.
The first important aspect: having a beard does not mean you don’t have to look after the skin beneath it. In fact, cleansing and hydrating your skin are very important. These are two essential aspects of skin care routines for men and they should not be left out just because you have a beard.
Having a beard, depending on how thick it is, will require situational changes in your basic skin care routine. There is hair where there wasn’t before; but you will still need to look after your skin. So you should use shampoo instead of soap and add hydrating emollients such as balms or oils to your skin care regime.
It is essential to wash your beard once or twice a day to keep it clean and free from tinea or mycosis. We recommend using a specific soap for beards on a daily basis. You should not use the soap you use for your scalp, because the composition of facial hair and particularly the skin in this area is different and it could cause peeling or dryness, since facial skin is finer and more sensitive to external factors.
You should gently wash the area; allowing the foam to remove excess oil and impurities from your beard and your skin.
Once you have washed the area or when you get out of the shower, dry your beard gently with a towel or a drier, but never use the hot air.
Growing a beard tends to naturally dry out your skin, which translates into itching and peeling. A daily moisturising routine is important to keep both your skin and your beard healthy.
Using specific balms or oils for beards if you have a very thick beard will moisturise your beard and your skin. Otherwise, a more conventional hydrating emollient will be sufficient.
Once you have washed your beard, it could end up feeling rough and dry because of the chemicals in soap. Use an emollient that contains vitamin C and E or caffeine (energising effect) or ginseng (stimulates hair growth) for a healthy looking beard.
We recommend following a simple daily skin care routine:
