Care for your skin this spring

Before we know it, spring will be upon us in all its glory, and the days will recover that light and colour that characterise this time of the year. Now’s the right time to prepare your skin for this season of change and adapt to the warm temperatures and sunny days.

During winter months, our skin is exposed to environmental factors such as the cold, which dehydrate and dry our skin both on the surface and at deeper layers. Above all, low temperatures cause a certain degree of tissue vasoconstriction, reducing the flow of nutrients to the skin’s regenerative layers. This causes a nutritional deficit in the skin’s basal layer, explaining the importance of care and hydration at this time of year.

However, spring is also a season of change, with temperatures on the rise, lengthening days and greater exposure to the sun for our skin. The pollination of flowers also means our skin is more susceptible to itching, peeling and even eruptions and allergies.

As you can see, spring brings with it many changes, both to the climate and for our skin. So here are a few handy tips to be ready for it:

Restoration of the skin

Depending how much your skin was affected by the winter, we recommend a treatment based around emollients with a stronger hydrating effect. Moisturising is vital for your skin to recover part of its structure and increases smoothness and tautness.

This is also a good time of year to start treatments with nourishing masks, such as vitamin E masks, which help regenerate the skin.

Here comes the sun

Solar radiation has a beneficial effect on the body, as it favours the physiology by synthesising Vitamin D, essential for fixing calcium in our bones.

However, we know that the effect of ultraviolet-A radiation, which penetrates deeper into the skin, speeds ageing and causes pigmentary conditions such as melasma or the appearance of blemishes. Both type A and type B ultraviolet radiation cause tissue damage, alter cell DNA and are directly responsible for skin cancer.

For this reason, we recommend using treatments that can prevent the appearance of blemishes because they contain sun screens, especially in products for daily use.

Watch out for sensitive spots

As we’ve already mentioned, these months will be full of change and we will need to adapt to new weather conditions. The risk of dry, itchy skin in sensitive areas such as those around the eyes and mouth is proportionate to the care we take with these areas. A basis of good moisturisation with a treatment that targets the area surrounding the eyes, for example, will be a good tool to fight peeling, itching and irritating contact allergies.

Healthy routines

Although spring means far more light, we recommend remembering the importance of a diet that provides you with enough antioxidants. It is very important to stay well hydrated and above all to use sun creams in the day time.

We recommend using light make-up, taking gentle exercise, but above all… making the most of this wonderful time of year!
