The right routine for exfoliating your skin

Exfoliation is a process that consists in removing the cells of the top layers of your skin. Whether on the face or on the body, exfoliation involves the removal of cells that have lost their regenerative function and are therefore dead or in deterioration.

Depending on the product or technique, exfoliation can penetrate to different depths of the skin. We recommend starting with a therapeutic superficial exfoliation using topical dermatocosmetic products. You can get incredible results with mechanical exfoliation; this basically involves the topical application of a product containing microbeads or micelles. These non-spherical particles are applied with a gentle massage, either directly or with a rough sponge, allowing excess cells or substances to be scraped away. They can have very satisfactory results, as they reduce the accumulation of impurities in the pores and bring your skin a new glow and smoothness.

Things to avoid…

Don’t use products with very extreme exfoliant action, with large, very rough or irregular particles, as these can have negative effects on more sensitive skin.

Don’t use treatments that leave your skin red or irritated.

Don’t use exfoliating treatments immediately after depilation, following (even mild) sunburn, or in areas with visible wounds.

Pay close attention to areas where you can see fragile veins, for example on your legs if they have very pronounced varicose veins.

Choose your exfoliating product carefully: your face has different properties to the rest of the skin on your body, meaning it will require a different type of product.

We recommend…

Make sure to properly exfoliate your body, especially areas like your knees, elbows and heels: this is essential in giving them the softness they deserve.

You should be careful when exfoliating the skin of your face, as it is much thinner and more sensitive. You should pay the most attention to the sides of the nose. We also recommend avoiding the area around your eyes and your lips, as the corneal layer here is extremely thin and fragile.

Facial exfoliation routine:

  1. Gentle cleanse:
    • First, moisten and gently wash your skin with warm water.
  2. Applying the exfoliant:
    • Apply exfoliating gel to your nose, cheeks, neck, forehead and chin. Next, spread it smoothly and evenly across your face.
    • After spreading the exfoliating solution, give yourself a gentle massage for a few minutes, using your fingertips to trace semicircles across your skin.
  3. Removing the exfoliant:
    • Gently wash your face again with warm water to remove any remaining product and fully remove all the impurities and dead cells.
  4. Lastly, the final key step in your complete cleansing routine, which will boost the effect of the treatments already applied: the face mask. We recommend using the following: HIDRO MASK for normal and dry skin or PURE MASK for oily or acne-prone skin. These are cleansing, moisturising and firming masks. They will help improve the structure and elasticity of the epidermis and leave your skin hydrated, soft and glowing. How are they used? Apply the mask in an even layer over clean skin, covering your entire face except the eyes and lips. Leave it to dry for 10–15 minutes, then rinse with plenty of water. We recommend using these once or twice a week, depending on your skin’s needs.

Finally, you should know that a good exfoliating treatment is you skin’s best friend. Facial exfoliation is an amazing way of preparing the skin before applying any kind of treatment, as it allows the nutritive product to penetrate deeper achieving more effective results.
