Ritual to rejuvenate men's skin

Despite what others may say, being a man is not as easy as it seems. There are many obvious physiological differences between men and women, including the skin. Men’s skin has some unique characteristics that make it fragile and sensitive which are not very well known. Today we are going to explain which treatment is most appropriate for the care and facial rejuvenation of men’s skin.

Men’s skin is 25% thicker than women’s skin, but its composition has a higher concentration of collagen and elastin fibres. This gives the skin a distinct firmness and therefore it develops differently over time, meaning it takes longer to age (skin thinning) while the facial features become rougher. Additionally it usually has a tendency to secrete more sebaceous matter; therefore, a stronger cleanser is needed to avoid shiny skin and imperfections. Lastly, it usually has a more acidic composition than women’s skin, leading to different qualities that should be taken into account for the daily care. And, of course, it has to be said that facial hair will require special attention to avoid the abrasion caused by shaving which negatively affects the daily care of men’s skin.

Rejuvenating care routine for men’s skin

Cleansing: The different hormonal production in men increases the production of sebum, which can continue until old age (75-80 years old). This increased activity at the sebaceous glands and sweat glands causes the skin to be more oily and moist. Because of this, it is very important to clean the face at least twice a day with mild cleansers to protect it from the cold and the sun.

Exfoliators and masks: If you have a combination of oily and sensitive skin, it is recommended to use a soft exfoliator at least once a week to eliminate any impurities accumulated. Remember that the pores are larger because there are hair follicles due to facial hair. We recommend you enjoy the benefits of applying a face mask once a week and you will achieve a uniform hydration.

Hydration: The slightly acidic pH present in your skin means that it needs more hydration. The shaving routine causes dryness, mostly at the chin. Therefore you should avoid irritating fragrances. Men’s skin absorbs the emollients better because there is an abundance of hair follicles. The best hydrating facial treatments for men contain gylcerine or alpha-hydroxy acids because they preserve the skin’s moisture by improving its barrier function.

Anti-aging treatment: We recommend lightweight fragrance-free treatments in a gel formulation and combining rapid acting serums. In men the contours of the eyes need special attention because this is where the feared “crows feet” and bags under the eyes originate, since in this area the collagen fibres deteriorate more easily. Compounds that contain abundant vitamin C or silicon fight against this process. Other ingredients such as caffeine work as a decongestant and an energiser on the hated under-eye bags. Additionally, treatments containing more common substances such as vitamins or hyaluronic acid are recommended, but jointly with more revitalising and firming products such as green tea, ginseng or soya.
